Meet
Monifa Ellis-Addie
New Jersey native, began her academic journey studying movement and dance therapy at Stockton University. After a successful career as a professional dancer in Los Angeles, she shifted her focus back to mental health and earned her MA in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, specializing in human sexuality.
While training to be an MFT, Monifa led workshops on female sexual health—covering topics like sex toys for vaginal wellness and healthy masturbation. She went on to become licensed and acquired her CSAT and betrayed partner specialist certification while working for Banyan Therapy Group under the mentorship of Dan Drake CSAT, CPC. Here, she has worked with couples and individuals navigate trauma, full disclosures, intimacy challenges, sobriety issues through sessions, workshops, and blogs. She has also co-written books in the field of sex addiction, “Healthy Boundaries: Learning to understand and keep boundaries after betrayal” and “Surviving the Holidays: A Holiday Couples Guide for Couples in Recovery After Sexual Betrayal”
She is the co-founder of PEACE Wellness Collective, a counseling center committed to destigmatizing therapy in BIPOC communities, and the founder of Kaizen Perspective Coaching (KPC), which supports individuals and couples healing from sex addiction and trauma.
Passionate about education and breaking the shame surrounding sexual issues, Monifa hosts the podcast ‘Hope and Healing Chats’ and has appeared as a guest expert on numerous platforms. Monifa splits her time between California and Georgia, balancing her professional work with family life.
