LFMT, CSAT, CCPS, ADHD-CCSP
Also known as The Betrayal Coach Mo
“I help betrayed partners and couples make sense of the pain, rebuild trust, and move forward with clarity.”
Monifa Ellis-Addie—professionally known as The Betrayal Coach Mo—is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and certified specialist in sex addiction and betrayal trauma. She is known for her grounded, compassionate, and real approach that helps clients feel, “Finally… someone who actually understands this.”
A New Jersey native, Monifa began her career in movement therapy and professional dance before returning to mental health, earning her MA in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a focus on human sexuality.
Throughout her clinical training, she led women’s sexual health workshops and later deepened her work in betrayal and sex addiction recovery at Banyan Therapy Group under the mentorship of Dan Drake. She has supported countless individuals and couples through trauma processing, full disclosures, sobriety challenges, and the complex rebuilding of intimacy and trust.
Monifa is the co-author of two respected resources in the field:
Healthy Boundaries: Learning to Understand and Keep Boundaries After Betrayal
Surviving the Holidays: A Couples Guide for Recovery After Sexual Betrayal
She co-founded PEACE Wellness Collective, focusing on destigmatizing therapy in BIPOC communities, and later founded Kaizen Perspective Coaching, also home to TheBetrayalCoachMo.com, where she provides specialized coaching for betrayed partners, betrayers in later-stage recovery, and couples working to heal their relationship.
In addition to being a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and a Partner Betrayal Specialist, she recently got certified to become an ADHD Certified Clinical Partner Specialist when she noticed that many of her male betrayer clients had untreated ADHD symptoms that affect treatment. She wanted to figure out the best way to assist them through recovery. ADHD symptom management has proven to mitigate shame and improve executive functioning, leading to consistent recovery.
As the host of Hope & Healing Chats, Monifa continues her mission of bringing education, compassion, and clarity to conversations around sexuality, betrayal, and healing. She divides her time between California and Georgia, balancing her professional passion with family life.
